Haibun: All One

As much as we want to call ourselves individuals, we cannot see ourselves apart from that which surrounds us. We are one with everything around us.

In my observations, it’s the space and context that shapes how I define myself. It’s the space in between that makes all comparisons and contrasts possible. So when I say I like being out in the sun, it’s the space filled with sunshine that shapes the whole conversation.

It is in this space we call ourselves individuals, but we are really just the cells in a much bigger organism called life.

the river is spun
with mountains in sun, all one.
spring’s summer undone.
