Haibun: Tired
Out for a walk, I found the prickly pear bush in the haiku below. I would like everyone to think I was curious and conquering the world like a true Instagram celebrity, but I wasn’t. I was tired and noticed the red and green amongst the shades of brown. It wasn’t because it was a great insight that I found it, it was the pop of it that pulled me in.
The older I get, the less energy reserves I have. Each day I seem to loss a tiny bit more, slipping away from the feelings of safe and secure. I can’t keep up with the image, so I stop to notice the red pops of color, but sometimes I just stop to rest.
wood-like knots that round;
prickly pears abound: red pops.
