Haibun: Similar Bounce

As the constance of summer lives out its daily variations, we know to keep our hoodies near our shorts. We may even look for wool socks online the mornings of a cold front.

But even in these predictable ways, the bubble in which the variances bounce in, slowly bends away from heat and summer. So as the days get shorter, in the Mid-Atlantics, the corn stalks hide the deer, and in the Sonoran Desert, the sun fades the cacti flowers to dust. Yet wherever we are, we know the variances ebbs down a degrees or two each day.

So on these humid, hot days, we know we are on our last days of being drenched. And in the desert, we know we live in the shade for only a few more weeks. Worlds apart, we all go through our variances bouncing in similar ways.

wilting and fading,

the sun’s persuading. pre-fall

summer’s pervading
