Haibun: Resilient

Passing this half of a cactus—unrooted and dug open—a world is exposed.

The home to smaller things, the mighty cacti of the Sonoran desert are worlds unto themselves. Bite marks says food. Burrowed holes for birds. Insects still crawl up and down on it. All in the ways of life. All in the ways of an ecosystem.

Looking at this cactus, inners exposed and in its death, it says life is resilient and always finding a way, even under this scorching Sonoran sun.

chewed, gnawed, and burrowed,

now dead to the world. yet once...

summer warmth is home
