Haibun: Law of Nature

All the rules have changed this year. Every store is different as is every expectation with social distancing and wearing a mask or not, yet summer drifts on.

Yet when I head off into the wildā€”that unplanned, uncurated, other worldā€”I head off into a place where the rules of society and government fade off. These rules can either melt in the sun or wash away in the rain. Maybe itā€™s the wind that takes the Judicial and Constitutional theories of laws and rights away in a million directions? All we espouse and decree are subservient to the laws of nature.

And in this natural law rule set, on a hot day, things seem to always get lazy.

a cloud set against
the blue sky, unfenced, condensed;

to drift like summer.
