Haibun: Sonoran Spring

Spring sun, for some, is a 70 degree day and cold again at night, arms and legs bare. It’s not pretty.

Here in the Sonoran Desert, the spring sun brings 90 degree days. Easter was 100 degrees. We are deep enough into spring that the snowbirds have already migrated north with all the other flocks.

But the spring brings grass along the rivers, the gold of prairie grass, but also the display of cacti blooms. So even here, where the sun can burn the temperatures of judgment, spring still brings life.

by the river, seen,
yearly sprouting green, new blades
clearly saying “spring”
