Haibun: Torched

There’s a saying from the Buddha, “ this arises, that becomes.“

The decimation of life around the Four Peaks Mountain, charred and exposed, happened and will, eventually, lead to new life, but when?

Here in the now, the moment I’m feeling, I must grieve. My hopes of life can only come from memories of grief that gave way to normalcy and promise. And I try and reflect, to remember, and have some hope for this decimated landscape.

So yes, a forest fire takes out what was, but new life arises from it, though my eyes only see destruction.

decimating attack... yet green?

fall’s how we get spring
