“No thank you,” she told him. With that, the man nodded and walked away.

Out of earshot, her oldest asked, “Why didn’t you let the man help us load theses bikes?”

She leaned into the last bike and said, “Because he didn’t want to help with our bikes, he wanted to help his ego.” 

The kids didn’t need to understand, but she knew what she did was right.
