Haibun: Resist

Commercial after commercial, we are told we need this to do and to be this. For me, it’s to pull out this IPhone and check it when I’m feeling underdressed or inadequate. To pull out my phone and show I’m worth something. Or maybe it’s to where my Patagonia shirt, words bold across the chest: “...but I’m one of you.” I think we all have our gadgets and logos, our ways of feeling part or safe when we feel judged.
But what would happen if each of us looked the person we want to impress, right in the eye, let our shoulders relaxed, took a normal breath and just smiled?

peace from pure sky blue
sharp rocks stage their coup, rise up!
spring’s winter’s undo.
