Haibun: So Kobe Shined
Before Kobe Bryant died in the helicopter crash this past Sunday, he involved himself in so many players lives. Player after player, from Jay Williams to Lebron James, all spent hours in the gym with Kobe learning how to be better basketball players and, really, how to work harder.
The bright idea, maybe the brilliance, of Kobe was to replicate himself. To be secure enough in himself to pass on his knowledge instead of make it his identity.
So Kobe shined.
brilliance before night,
vibrant before lights flame out,
and dark winter’s blight
