Haibun: Letting Go For Sleep

I don’t really know how to explain it, other than, holding the hand of a scared and tired child, feeling the random squeeze to make sure you are there, only to feel their small hand relax away into sleep. This is how I felt in the coolness of the night on the day I walked on sun soaked stones that were still hot enough to burn. Summer is letting go to sleep.


cool nights now compete,
with stones holding heat, “still burns.”
