Haibun: Yoga

“Now for a Supine Twist. For this, roll onto your back, lifting your right knee up and dropping it across your left leg that’s still stretched out. Just let it drop and hold it with your left hand. Great! With deep inhales and slow exhales, hold this for 8 breaths”

She did what her friend instructed. Her friend instructed through her last practice run before launching the new yoga studio. But she didn’t mind, she always found yoga both strengthening and calming. And with the heat so deep into this Sonoran summer, and with everyone around her exasperated at all times, she grabbed onto the yoga.

As she exhaled another count: ’It’s this yoga, just like the way the one stream of steam from the tea leads the other into the dance of seduction a moment before disappearing into the eternal, it’s this yoga, it’s all these small things I welcome home like I will my children after they have moved away. These small things, these are the things I welcome.’

“Welcome home.” she whispered as her friend started explaining the next move.
